Apple is one of the most recognized brands in the world, thanks to its iconic logo. People even love it enough to get it tattooed on themselves! I stumbled upon this interview on Creative Bits with Rob Janoff, the designer of the logo, which provides a lot of interesting insights into how the logo was designed. Did you know the original logo had the rainbow stripes as a way of representing that Apple was the first personal computer that could reproduce color? He also debunks a lot of the rumors as to why the logo has a bite taken out of it– it’s not a reference to Eve eating from the fruit of knowledge, nor a cute pun on the computing term “byte”. Rather, Janoff just wanted to communicate size and scale so that the logo would not be mistaken for a cherry! And it’s weird to think, but it was designed so long ago that it was done on paper and pencil instead of right on the computer! If you’re at all interested in Apple and its logo, head over to Creative Bits to check out the interview– it’s a good read.
